DIYNAMIC OUTDOOR, DESTINO, IBIZA REVIEW

Diynamic is both a label and a family. Boasting a catalogue of carefully-crafted releases and a cool, low-key brand aesthetic, it’s no surprise that Solomun’s ubiquitous imprint has once again triumphed in Ibiza, largely because it embodies, well, him. Never has Diynamic’s warm and fuzzy label philosophy shone brighter — or more magnanimously — than at the brand’s final outdoor party at Destino in September, despite the inclement weather that hammers the majority of the island’s infamous closing fiestas.

WATCH THE ULTRA EUROPE 2014 AFTERMOVIE

Ultra Europe has just released the after-movie for its 2014 summer festival. Entitled 'To The Sun', the video — directed by Charles Friedrichs — features gorgeous footage taken from Croatia's Polijud Stadium and the Hotel Amfora Grand Resort.

Festival highlights include clips of Fedde Le Grand, Martin Garrix, Carl Cox, David Guetta and Sebastian Ingrosso, while attendees party under the Croatian sun.

I LOVE TECHNO RETURNS TO ROOTS IN 2014

Belgium loves techno and we do too, so it's just as well I Love Techno is going back to its roots when it returns to Flanders Expo, Ghent, for its 19th session on Saturday 8th November.

Recent dates have seen French house/electro, dubstep and even trap creep onto the line-up, but this year it's much more about the genre they claim to love.

TOP 100 DJS: ESSENTIAL TUNES (1-5)

Voting is well underway in the definitive global DJ poll - Top 100 DJs. These days it is hard (but not impossible) to break through as a DJ alone. So your work in the studio goes a long way towards helping you reach a global audience - and the summit of the Top 100 DJs poll.

These are the tracks that helped to define the Top 5 in the 2013 poll.

FORWARD MOVEMENTS

words: ORESTES BENITEZ/JOE ROBERTS

Movement Electronic Music Festival in Detroit is venerated as an event for those who feed on the sound of techno, a pilgrimage required of all who abide by the belief that man and machine can make hypnotic, transcendent music.

IBIZA 2014: THE SEASON SO FAR

Ibiza 2014 is shaping up to be one of the best seasons yet. Despite the island being in a state of flux, the crowds at opening weekend were strong and there is excitement on the island about the evolving face of Ibiza.

At the start of the month we were on the island for IMS and Space Opening Party - the unofficial curtain raiser for the season.

DEFECTED IBIZA: ARE YOU DEFECTED?

Whether it's re-issuing rare beauts, trotting out instant classics or delving into the underground with its DFTD spin-off, Defected is undoubtedly one of house music's most crucial labels.

Its yearly residencies at Pacha and innings at Ushuaia have also made it one of the island's most popular parties over the years, and its affiliation with BoOom! last summer proved it even further.

EDC UK ANNOUNCES EVEN MORE ACTS

Dance music fans rejoice! Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) UK returns for a second year with an even more expansive line-up than last time, once again including the Top 100 DJs winner, Hardwell.

New additions to the line-up have just been announced, Hardwell amongst them. Also added to the already massive bill are: Pendulum (a DJ set with the addition of Pendulum's original MC), Sigma, Route 94, Nick Curly, and Andy Moor b2b Lange.

A CALL TO ARMIN

Past years have seen the Dutch trance favourite choose Space and Privilege for his residencies, but this year his decision to join forces with Ibiza's iconic poolside arena shows yet more tilt in booking power on the island.

FATBOY SLIM'S BRAZILIAN LOVE AFFAIR

Norman Cook welcomes the DJ Mag crew into his house in Brighton on the south coast of England, then nips upstairs to change into his Brazil kit for the cover shoot. We take a painting off the wall near his front door, and Norm stands in the requisite spot while we shoot enough pics to composite a Team of Norms for the DJ Mag cover. “Do ‘angry’,” says photographer Larry, encouraging Norm to do different faces for the shots. “I’m not sure I can do ‘angry’,” says Norm.
