NEW APP LETS YOU FIND YOUR FRIENDS IN CLUBS

Electronic music has always led the way when it comes to technology and innovation. Pioneers such as Kraftwerk, Jeff Mills and Carl Cox have all irrevocably changed how we view the musical landscape, in the process setting a new benchmark in terms of sound and musical capabilities.

DIGITALLY IMPORTED STREAMING SERVICE

Internet streaming services are changing the way dance music is enjoyed by legions of dance music fans across the globe, offering a wealth of shows and a 24-hour listening experience that captures the vibe of the dance music community from one centralised location.

Digitally Imported are one company leading the charge in this online arena, however, until recently, they've existed more as an underground, word-of-mouth service than in-your-face providers such as Spotify and Deezer.

Algoriddim's djay is a name that is best known for the rather excellent iOS app, which has gone from strength-to-strength, even winning an Apple Design Award in 2011, but this software has actually been around since 2006 when it was first released for OSX.

The ethos behind djay has always been to make a DJing platform that is fun to use and very easy to learn, as well as being easy on the pocket. It has been marketed towards casual mixers and the "mix curious", but that is about to change.

APP REVIEW: MIXCLOUD

One of the most important aspects of being a professional DJ is promotion and unless you are already a superstar DJ with a team working behind the scenes this means self promotion. While the Internet has made releasing and promoting music easier than ever the sheer volume of releases and information out there makes it harder than ever to stand out from the crowd and get some attention.

APP REVIEW: ARTURIA'S iSEM

Following on from the recent success of the iMini — a recreation of the legendary Minimoog for the iPad — Arturia have released iSEM, which this time recreates the legendary sound of the Oberheim SEM Synthesiser Expander Module, using their award-winning TAE (True Analog Emulation) technology.
