THE PRODIGY: THE PRODIGAL SONS

“I think we should be a British institution. Everyone goes on about all of these other people from the '90s like Blur and Oasis, but we’re still doing our shit, we’ve stuck to what we’re about without compromise. We just don’t get the recognition we deserve.”

HOT SEAT - JASON WILLIAMSON (SLEAFORD MODS)

Jason Williamson and Andrew Fearn started Sleaford Mods a few years ago, but it's only really now that they're breaking through into wider musical consciousness . Their raw brand of punky, street-real stream of consciousness ranting over driving, post-punky electronics has drawn comparisons with the Happy Mondays and The Streets, but really they're a unique British talent that's shaking up a complacent music scene gloriously.

LFO CHART CAMPAIGN ENTERS FINAL DAYS

WAX LYRICAL: BINGO PLAYERS

It isn’t often that a couple of teenage buddies maintain a friendship past young adulthood, let alone a prolific career partnership. However, Maarten Hoogstraten and Paul Baümer were never typical kids. Already an avid collector of vinyl and CDs by the age of 10, Maarten’s future as a producer-DJ was solidified by pubescence, and the day he met Paul, through his younger brother, two hours outside Amsterdam in Enschede, Holland. The two boys were both hooked on sound creation and even used the same ProTracker software to make electronic music.

PRODIGY NEW ALBUM AT END OF THE YEAR

The Prodigy have confirmed that their next album, their sixth — the follow-up to 2009's 'Invaders Must Die' — will be released at the end of the year.

Speaking to DJ Mag about his new project We Are Noize for a forthcoming feature, Maxim — the band's prowling MC — confirmed that the album will drop at the end of 2014. “That's all I can say,” he said.

THE PRODIGY'S MAXIM GOES TRAP

We Are Noize are a group of artists fronted by Maxim from The Prodigy, collaborating "to make music outside the norm". It's being billed as Maxim's first solo single, although it's not the first time Maxim has ventured into side-projects, remember this?

So far we've only been teased with the one track on their SoundCloud, but it's definitely enough to perk our interests!

RANT 'N' RAVE: NOSEBLEED DANCE BOLLOCKS

Time was, in the '80s and '90s when dance music was so massively marginalised by mainstream culture (yeah, so what’s new?) that trying to get electronic music considered critically by the arbiters and curators of pop was hugely difficult.

THE PRODIGY TO HEADLINE SZIGET

The Prodigy have just been announced as headlining the Sziget Festival in Hungary this August. The festival is in its 22nd year now, and takes place on an island in the middle of the capital city, Budapest.

JAGUAR SKILLS GETS NERVOUS

Jaguar Skills has been talking to DJ Mag about his latest project — the ''90s Hip-Hop Revisited' album. With this project, Jag Skills spent a couple of weeks rooting around the vaults of Nervous Records in New York, the legendary house and hip-hop label.

“It was amazing just to be given the parts to these records,” Jags told DJ Mag. “And they said, 'You can make anything out of anything'. I always wanted to make a '90s hip-hop album.”

MAXIM - HOT SEAT

Maxim is best known as the MC from The Prodigy, probably still the biggest and most dangerous electronic act on the goddamn planet. He's the vocalist on Prodigy classics like 'Breathe' and 'Poison', and still does approximately 100 shows a year with Liam, Keith and co. Apparently there's another Prodigy album out later this year...
