REVIEW: RICARDO VILLALOBOS AT ZOO PROJECT IBIZA

It started off as a normal Saturday afternoon at The Zoo – as normal as an old abandoned Zoo in the heart of the Benimussa hills of Ibiza can get of course. We'd been tipped off that a special guest was due to appear on the main stage, but as we arrived around 7pm the unicyle-riding gorilla and hand-holding hippies in the drum circle near the entrance were giving nothing away.

IBIZA Q&A: MARTIN SOLVEIG

Martin Solveig is a DJ with a longstanding affinity with the island of Ibiza. Something of a national treasure in his homeland of France, Solveig is also an esteemed producer and a man who has clocked up an impressive number of crossover house anthems in his time.

IBIZA Q&A: ROGER SANCHEZ

When the conclusive history of house music is laid out for all to see, chances are Roger Sanchez’s name is one that’ll crop up regularly. The NYC native has been in the game for well over two decades now, and first came to prominence in the mid '90s courtesy of some classic productions on the seminal Strictly Rhythm imprint.

SANKEYS IBIZA TRIBAL SESSIONS REVIEW

Whereas other Ibiza clubs can often be achingly sterile and controlled environments, Sankeys has always prided itself on being that bit different and doing things in its own inimitable way. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t, but what can’t be doubted is the promoter’s dedication to the scene.

PETE TONG AND HOT SINCE 82 DROP IBIZA COMP

Even without the MBE bestowed upon him by Prince William, Pete Tong’s legacy as a tastemaker in dance music is impeccable. Through his FFRR label, Radio 1 and Evolution broadcasts, as well as countless sets, mixes, productions, events, and compilations, Tong inspired the catch phrase, It’s All Gone Pete Tong. Ostensibly a jab meant to indicate failure, the phrase is now a stamp of approval recognized by disco denizens worldwide.

DO NOT SLEEP: VISTA CLUB REVIEW

Privilege’s Vista Club is a room steeped in Ibiza tradition. The one-time home to Manumission’s infamous side-parties, it’s come back to prominence lately thanks to its hosting of Spanish party Elrow, which recently teamed up with Kehakuma and moved across town to a bigger venue at Space. Regardless, it’s the sort of venue that’s been yearning for a suitable such session for some time — and in Do Not Sleep it finally seems to have settled on one that’s very much a win-win for all parties.

NEW APP LETS YOU FIND YOUR FRIENDS IN CLUBS

Electronic music has always led the way when it comes to technology and innovation. Pioneers such as Kraftwerk, Jeff Mills and Carl Cox have all irrevocably changed how we view the musical landscape, in the process setting a new benchmark in terms of sound and musical capabilities.

DJ W!LD: BORN TO BE W!LD

Guillaume Duchastel De Montrouge, better know by his stage-name, DJ W!LD, is one of electronic music’s most consistent performers. Montrougue’s alias however, is a slight misnomer; especially when we consider that the Frenchman is as renowned for his productions as he is his DJ abilities. The owner of the much-respected W label (and one half of the brains behind the Catwash imprint), W!LD isn’t just consistent with his productions — he’s also impressively prolific too.

IBIZA'S TOP RESTAURANTS

IBIZA Q&A: DOORLY

Yorkshire native Doorly has been a prominent member of the electronic music scene for some time now. An island regular thanks to his duties at Ibiza Rocks, he’s helped oversee a period where the party has gone from up-and-coming clubbing brand to a major player on the White Isle.
