7 TRACKS THAT INSPIRED ANNIE NIGHTINGALE

Where to start with Annie Nightingale? The legendary BBC Radio 1 DJ and big, tireless electronic music supporter celebrates an immense 50 years in broadcasting this month with a series of documentaries and a hefty Ministry Of Sound compilation.

“It's not a typical dance album. It's the first time that the Rolling Stones have ever agreed to have a track on a compilation album, that's what's exciting for me,” Annie tells DJ Mag.

EAST ANGLIA IS WHERE THE PARTY’S AT…
Well, as long as BBC Radio 1 has their way it is! It's always an exciting fixture in the Radio 1 calendar when our Big Weekend takes over an unsuspecting UK city, signaling the official start to the summer (in our book anyway). After the success of Glasgow last year, 2015 sees us take the party further south as we hit Norwich on 23rd and 24th of May.

KITTEN & THE HIP: COOL FOR CATS

Scarlett Quinn met Ashley Slater a few years ago when she started writing for the Iconical Music toplining company that Ashley was co-running. “It was a great learning curve for me, not writing so much from the heart and only when I ‘felt the vibe’, but as a day job,” Scarlett tells DJ Mag. “A song a day, like a song factory.”

LITTLE DRAGON: TAKING FLIGHT

Little Dragon married young, you might say. It was at high school, still in their teens, that the Gothenburg four-piece met, a good decade before they'd captivate future collaborators like Damon Albarn, Raphael Saadiq or Big Boi from Outkast with their unique mash of alt. R&B and ice-cold electronica. They were, quite literally, too cool for school. Some things never change.

TOUR OF DUTY: JACKMASTER

It was a decade ago when Jackmaster founded Glasgow club night Numbers, forging a party ready collective of like-minded talent whose ranks helped launch the likes of Rustie and Hudson Mohawke into the wider world. Today, Numbers is still multiplying exponentially, with Jackmaster – who recently recorded a Radio 1 Essential Mix - refining the art of the purely focused DJ by bringing his superior live sets across the world - three times over - on what feels like a never-ending tour.
