AUSTRALIA'S BRIGHT FUTURE

Shrimps on the barbie, Crocodile Dundee, Bondi Beach, Steve Irwin, Kylie Minogue, the Sydney Opera House; Australia has always touted — for better or worse — its own strong and symbolic sense of identity.

Its dance music scene has some equally notable and iconic acts (cue The Presets, Cut Copy or more recently, Flume), who've achieved a ubiquitous level of overground success, but it's Australia's underground scene that's starting, slowly but surely, to bubble.

PAUL VAN DYK: HOT SEAT

Three years in the making and brought to fruition in a different way to the previous two, it’s a worthy addition to PvD’s impressive discography of albums, mix-comps and quality melodic trance-tastic releases. ‘Politics of Dancing 3’ is out 4th May via Ultra Music/New State. Pre-order it here: www.thepoliticsofdancing.com

AXEL BOMAN: WEIRD AND WONDERFUL

Axel Boman is “trying out a new look”. He’s wearing an all black turtle-neck jumper and floppy black cricket cap, but he’s not sure it’s working for him just yet. We’re on a Skype video call, but before DJ Mag questions his fashion choices, we have to halt conversation and ask about the hugely distracting picture that is stuck to the wall just over his right shoulder.

JAMIE TRENCH: DIGGING IN

DJ, producer and enterprising label boss Jamie Trench has seen his vigorous blend of disco, house and deep underground jams — or how he would describe it, “Grooves to move ya” — rise to acclaim over a short, successful period of time. At the young age of 20, Jamie played his first show at the notorious Lightbox in London before becoming integrally involved in his local scene at the Loft Party in Milton Keynes.

TRANCE & EDM MIX BREAKDOWN W/ MIKE KOGLIN: PART 1

Point Blank’s brand new Trance / EDM module is up and running and to celebrate they’ve got a brand new tutorial series led by module instructor, and trance legend in his own right, Mike Koglin (Armada Music, Anjunabeats, Ministry of Sound). Using his latest release ‘Kosmonaut’ on Perfecto Black (already supported by Above & Beyond, Markus Schulz and Paul Oakenfold) Mike breaks down the mix to show you how he produced the track.

Suitable for Mac, PC, Logic Pro or Ableton Live users, Point Blank’s brand new course covers a broad range of EDM taking in trance, progressive house, electro house, dubstep and tech house. It also features original music (including templates, parts and stems) by well-established international producer/DJs Mike Koglin (Anjunabeats, Above & Beyond, Ministry of Sound), Dale Corderoy (Napith, High Contrast, Vandit, Perfecto) and Tempo Giusto (Armada Music, Black Hole Recordings, Anjunabeats, Universal Music).

PREMIERE: AMAROSS 'FRIDAY NIGHT'

It’s Friday, so what better time to premiere a brand-new dancefloor anthem named ‘Friday Night’. The debut single from emerging Italian DJ duo Amaross is tailor-made for the biggest and hottest dancefloors across the globe, and is very possibly one of the biggest festival anthems this year.

ARMIN PICKS HIS 'ONES TO WATCH'

The reach of Armin Van Buuren is enormous now. The five times winner of the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll has just been chosen by CNN International to “shine a light” on two up and coming acts for a TV series that airs next week.

Armin has chosen to big up Heatbeat from Argentina and Andrew Rayel from Moldova, who have both figured prominently in the new Top 100 DJs poll.

ASHLEY WALLBRIDGE: THE MARQUEE MAESTRO

Stoke-On-Trent's Ashley Wallbridge has gone from a trance newbie to one of the hottest names in big room dance in a matter of years. Now, with a residency at Marquee in Las Vegas, his popularity has entered a whole new sphere.
