On Sunday night (October 5th), Birmingham-based turntablist Mr Switch won the 29th annual DMC World DJ Championships — becoming the first UK DJ to do so in 13 years.
First entering the competition when he was only 11-years-old, Switch has fought hard over the years, finally earning himself the coveted World Champion jacket and a custom-made gold Rane 62 mixer. He won the prize with a viciously scratched set of hip-hop and dubstep.
Jason Trikakis has only been producing since 2011, having played drums in bands for many years previous. “Those experiences left me somewhat jaded, and music production seemed like an interesting alternative,” he tells DJ Mag. “I’d been writing songs my whole life, and producing gave me the tools to create my own music without having to rely upon other people. It was incredibly liberating.”
The Ghetto Funk Allstars duo grew out of a blog and a label a few years ago, and they've been rocking festivals and parties ever since with their bass-heavy funk music. The guys now have a whole team running tings in relation to all things ghetto funk.
