Kenyan composer and sound artist Nyokabi Kariūki will release her debut EP, ‘peace places: kenyan memories’, next month via SA Recordings. Listen to the single, ‘Equator Song’, below.
Across the EP’s six tracks, Kariūki, who lives between Nairobi, New York and Maryland, weaves elements of experimental electronic music, contemporary classical, choral pop and East African traditional styles to create a work that explores personal memory.

Following last year’s first edition, which found various artists exploring different branches of ambient electronic music, this second outing offers 14 brand new tracks. Contributions to ‘Open Space Volume 2’ come from artists including KMRU, Len Faki, Max Cooper, Laraaji and Earthen Sea.

The eight-track experimental ambient release was produced between the artist’s respective homes in Nairobi and Manchester, with the artists combining their respective specialisms into what KMRU has described as a “psychic collaboration”.
KMRU, who is now based in Berlin, folds his organic field recording manipulations and textured electronics into Echium’s sparse and frosty dub techno atmospheres. Echium also created the album’s abstract artwork.

‘BLXCK KXT REMIX EP’ features contributions from Iron Dylan, Awful Records’ LORD NARF, House of Labeija’s Rozay Labeija, GHOZT and Never Normal/Teklife affiliate Heavee. Each of the five remixers puts their own distinctive spin on KHX05's (pronounced Chaos) raw and experimental rap tracks, in which their lyrics tell stories of their trans experience.
