Halcyon is something of a standalone in its native Californian scene: while most dance events are huge festival setups or giant club gatherings, this place deals in a more intimate party. The space was originally a warehouse, so retains some of that rawness and all the illicit feelings that come with it, but has been brought up to date as one of only a small handful of clubs in the world to have a Dolby Atmos system. They have also designed their own recyclable paperboard water box for the club, after seeing how many plastic bottles were piling up after each event.
An “everyone’s equal” approach and 24-hour licence means parties can go long and DJs can really stretch their legs. Amelie Lens, Nina Kraviz, MK, Len Faki, J. Phlip and Charlotte de Witte have all played in the last year, and Halcyon regulars are such die-hards that you will often find them with the club's logo tattooed on their arm. It's a perfect embodiment of the close-knit, community feel the famously all-female team have strived to achieve. Add in an always adventurous and forward-looking booking policy, and you have all the things that continue to stand this club apart.
