Backroad Gee, the London-based UK rap artist best known for his hit, 'Party Popper', is next in the opening season of our new series, Meet The MC.
Backroad Gee has the kind of voice that makes you stop what you’re doing and listen. The East London-born artist has spun himself a formidable reputation through his blistering blend of grime, dancehall and drill, with tracks like ‘Party Popper’ and Pa Salieu collaboration ‘My Family’ gaining cult street anthem status. If there’d been live shows in 2020, you can guarantee BackRoad Gee would have enjoyed reload after reload.
Meet the MC, our new DJ Mag Originals video series introducing the most vital artists in rap, launches this Thursday (4th March) at 7pm.
Celebrating an exciting time for the scene, Meet the MC launches with D Double E (4th March), Br3nya (18th March), and Backroad Gee (1st April).
Combining a freestyle series with in-depth fly-on-the-wall interviews, Meet the MC explores the stories of these crucial lyricists.
D Double E has enlisted Novelist, P Money, Frisco and BackRoad Gee for a remix of his recent single ‘Tell Me A Ting’.
Ahead of the release of his project, ‘D.O.N.’ (Double Or Nothing) on 23rd October, the legendary MC teamed up with a star-studded cast of MCs for the remix, with each guest delivering their own incendiary verse. Check it out, with accompanying visuals of the recording session, below.
Pa Salieu has released a new single and video, 'My Family (feat. Backroad Gee)'.
The Coventry, UK-based, Gambia-raised MC won over tastemakers from Benji B to Annie Mac when he exploded onto the scene in 2019 with tracks like 'Dem A Lie' and 'Frontline'. This latest packs more low slung swagger and hypnotic locked loops, and features rhymes and lines from London rapper Backroad Gee, who invited Salieu to appear on his own track, 'Party Popper', earlier this year.
