The UK’s Competiton and Markets Authority has formally begun its investigation into the UK music streaming market. A report by the DMCS Committee into the dominance of major labels within the streaming market and the low rates paid to artists last year saw interviews conducted with artists, label heads and publishers.
Casio has launched two new keyboard products aimed at synthesizing vocals. The products were teased by Casio over the past few weeks, with a vocode-style soundtrack hinting at what the new products were designed for. According to Casio: “The CT-S1000V is the first vocal synthesiser that can literally turn any text — such as song lyrics — into a musical phrase and then ‘sing’ it in full harmony based on any notes played on its keys."
LANDR – the music services company that started out as one of the first AI mastering platforms – has announced a new suite of plugins to join its All Access Pass subscription plan. The plugins are made up of five single-knob tools, similar to Waves’ OneKnob series. They include Acoustic, Electric, Beats, Bass and Voice. Each plugin has a single ‘Blend’ knob and input and output controls, with all the processing happening behind the scenes.
Roland will turn 50 years old in 2022 and to celebrate they’ve launched a new website, covering the development and emergence of some of their most influential hardware of the past five decades. The new site covers the 70s through to 2020s, with equipment like one of the first preset synths, the SH-1000, the iconic RE-20 Space Echo and the gigantic System 700 modular, which still fetches crazy prices second hand. Roland’s first polysynth, the Jupiter-4, also gets a shout out, while the ’80s say iconic kit like the TR-808, Jupiter-8 polysynth and the king of acid, TB-303.
Spotify’s HiFi tier, which promised “CD-quality” streaming, has been delayed indefinitely. The new subscription alternative, which was announced in February 2021 and rivals alternatives from TIDAL and Apple Music, is now not being released as planned, with no date in place for when the tier will launch.
Pioneer DJ has launched two new Serato controllers with a totally new design – the DDJ-REV-1 and the DDJ-REV-7. Aimed at opposite ends of the experience spectrum, both controllers are designed with battle-style DJs in mind, mimicking the layout of two turntables and a mixer.
Casio has been teasing a new product on its social media for a few weeks, and the final teaser shows what looks like a new keyboard or synth, accompanied by a vocoded voice sound, implying the new hardware will be some kind of synth-vocoder combo.
Dance music duo Disclosure has teamed up with UK audiophile hardware company MasterSounds to create some new branded vinyl accessories. The new kit includes MasterSounds famed vinyl weights featuring the Disclosure faces logo and some new slipmats with the same recognisable Disclosure branding.
The weights are used to both stabilise the weight of a record, and make it easier to make adjustments to the tempo if a record is drifting out of time.
